Irfan Wahab Khan, Chief Marketing Officer, Telenor Pakistan, said that Telenor has started providing free 3G service in four cities of the country and the service will be launched on commercial basis as soon as the license is obtained.

 The auction of 3G spectrum in Pakistan was according to international standards and completely transparent. Telenor has acquired 3G spectrum for 147.5 million. Telenor has 8,000 sites. Telenor has launched a free 3G trial service for its customers in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore and Karachi before the regular launch of 3G service.

 He said that Telenor is already providing 3G services in 11 countries so based on its extensive experience, it will provide 3G services to the customers at reasonable prices.

 Customers will be offered attractive prepaid and postpaid packages. Irfan Wahab said that 3G technology would boost education, health and trade in Pakistan and increase GDP growth by one per cent. Most of all, that's a big challenge.

 Mobile operators have met Finance Minister Ishaq Darsey on the issue and he has promised to review taxes in the budget. He said that at present there are only 10% mobile phones in Pakistan. This is also a big challenge for the government. Reducing import tax will have better results

 He said that at present Telenor is number one in internet in Pakistan and is the most preferred service of mobile users. Asked about 4G, Irfan Wahab said that ecosystem is not ready in Pakistan at present. I don't have more than 50,000 4G phones. He said that according to the terms of the license, we have to start the service in five cities in nine months, but we are fully prepared and the service will be started on a commercial basis as soon as we get the license. He said that Telenor customers can start using 3G by dialing * 7799 #. All our SIMs have 3G.
